Purpose

In the Bill of Materials List page, use the Copy Bill of Materials feature to effortlessly create a new Bill of Materials from an existing one. This streamlines the process and enhances efficiency.

What can you do with it?

The Copy Bill of Materials feature is designed to help you duplicate a Bill of Materials without starting from scratch. It allows users to create a new configuration by leveraging an existing template, making it quick to generate variations for different purposes or projects.

How is it done?

Follow these simple steps to make a copy:

  1. Select the Existing Bill of Materials

    • Navigate to the Data Select of Active Bill of Materials to choose the template you wish to copy.

    • This sets the Bill of Material that will be copied from.

  2. Name Your New Bill of Materials

    • In the Text Field, enter a unique identifier for your new Bill of Materials.

    • Note: The system will automatically set the name format to β€œ[Copied Bill of Material Name] copy.”

  3. Choose a Work Order Type

    • Use the Data Select of Work Order Types to associate a Work Order Type with your new Bill of Materials.

    • Leaving this blank creates a wildcard Bill of Materials applicable to any Work Order Type.

Important Considerations

  • Ensure the selected existing Bill of Materials is active to avoid errors.

  • Remember, the new Bill of Materials inherits all specifications from the original; tailor it as necessary once copied.

Best Practices

  • Regularly review and update your Bill of Materials templates to ensure they're current.

  • Use clear, descriptive names for your new Bill of Materials to prevent confusion down the line.

  • Consider creating guidelines for when and how to use wildcard Bill of Materials to maintain consistency across projects.
