Purpose

On the Bill of Materials List page, the New Bill of Materials feature allows users to create a new Bill of Materials easily.

What can you do with it?

With the New Bill of Materials, you can efficiently set up the necessary materials and components for specific work orders, ensuring that you have everything you need for your production processes. This feature simplifies the task of gathering and organizing materials for your manufacturing needs.

How is it done?

Follow these steps to create a new Bill of Materials:

  1. Access the Bill of Materials List:

    • Navigate to the Bill of Materials List page.

  2. Initiate a New Bill of Materials:

    • Click on the New Bill of Materials button to begin.

  3. Enter Details:

    • Name: In the Text Field, enter a unique name for your Bill of Materials. This sets the identity of the Bill and helps in easy reference later.

    • Work Order Type: Use the Data Select to choose the relevant work order type or leave it blank to create a wildcard BOM that can be associated with any Work Order Type.

  4. Finalize and Save:

    • Ensure all fields are correctly filled out.

    • Click Save to confirm your new Bill of Materials.

Important Considerations

  • Unique Naming: Ensure the name of your Bill of Materials is distinctive and descriptive to prevent any confusion or errors.

  • Work Order Type: Selecting a specific work order type ties the BOM to that category, helping to streamline processes. Leaving the type blank makes your BOM more versatile, usable across multiple work order types.

Best Practices

  • Review Before Saving: Double-check all entered information to avoid any mistakes, potentially saving you time and resources down the road.

  • Clarity in Naming: Choose a clear and standardized naming convention for easier identification and management of multiple BOMs.

  • Utilize Wildcard Feature: Consider leaving the Work Order Type blank if the Bill of Materials will serve various production scenarios, improving flexibility and efficiency.
