📦 Updating an Inventory Product’s Category

Assigning the correct inventory category helps streamline reporting and ensures your products are grouped appropriately for compliance and tracking purposes.

To update a product’s inventory category:

  1. Go to the Products Page

    • Navigate to Products and select the product you'd like to update.

  2. Click “Edit”

    • In the top right corner of the product detail page, click Edit.

  3. Select or Create a Category

    • Use the Inventory Categories dropdown to choose an existing category.

    • If the category you need doesn’t exist, click the ➕ button to create a new one.

  4. Save Your Changes

    • Click Update to save the category assignment.

💡 If you're in the cannabis industry, we recommend aligning inventory categories with CTS reporting standards when applicable.

⚖️ Managing Equivalent Units

Equivalent units let you track and report inventory in multiple units of measurement (e.g., grams, units, cases).

To manage or set up equivalent units:

  1. Open the Product Detail Page

    • Go to the product where you want to manage units.

  2. Click “Manage Units”

    • In the top right, click Manage Units and then click New to create a unit.

  3. Add a New Unit

    • Enter the unit name (e.g., grams) and abbreviation (e.g., g).

  4. Set Equivalency

    • Use the swap icon to adjust the conversion equation (e.g., 1 each = 7 grams).

    • Click Continue to save.

  5. Set the Display Unit

    • Back on the Manage Units page, select the desired display unit (e.g., grams) and confirm.

🔎 Setting the correct equivalency ensures your inventory reports reflect accurate unit conversions across all areas.

📊 Reporting Notes

  • Inventory reports (e.g., Monthly Opening Inventory with Detailed Processing) will use your assigned display unit and inventory category.

  • This helps with filtering, accuracy, and clarity in both internal and regulatory reporting.

✅ Tips

  • Start with one primary inventory category per product, even though you can assign more.

  • Review unit equivalencies regularly to ensure accuracy.

  • Use clear, standardized names for new units and categories to keep your product setup organized.
