Work Order Location Settings and Options

1. Setting a Default Work Order Location

  • If you set a default work order location for a work order type, all work orders of that type will automatically be assigned to that location.

  • This is useful for standard workflows where work orders consistently take place in the same location.

2. Allowing Users to Change the Work Order Location

  • By enabling “Allow default location to be changed by user”, you can manually select the location when opening a work order.

  • This is helpful when work orders usually occur in one location but occasionally need to take place elsewhere.

3. Automatically Moving Batches to Work Order Locations

  • If "Move batch to work order location" is enabled, the system will change the batch location to the work order location when the batch is added as an input.

  • Recommendation: Only enable this if the entire batch is consumed in the work order. If a partial inventory is used, keeping this option off ensures that batch records accurately reflect the material distribution.

4. Changing Batch Location Upon Work Order Completion

  • Enabling “Force location change on close” requires selecting a new location when closing a work order.

  • All batches in the output of the work order will have their location updated accordingly.

  • Recommendation: This should only be used when the entire batch is consumed, preventing discrepancies in batch records.

Best Practices for Using Work Order Location Changes

  • If using “Move batch to work order location” or “Force location change on close”, ensure batch movement processes are tightly controlled.

  • Always complete work order actions in chronological order to prevent issues with backdating other actions.

  • Consider whether batch movements need to be automated based on how materials are used in your workflows.
